Just by accident I found a slick way to soften the undercoating to make scraping easier.
A friend is doing a frame off on a GTO at the same time I'm doing my Chevelle and he had a halogen work light inside the body while he worked. The light tilted down and was shining on the floor for about a half hour. I noticed the metal was very warm, so I grabbed a scraper and reached under the body. There was an area larger than a square foot that was softened and scraped very easy.
We're going to set up lamps when it's on the rotisserie and heat a large area.
I think this is better than a flame or heat gun since it heats a large area.
