i recently removed my engine and trans. and decided to remove my master cylinder. in work the lines were so rusted that i had to cut the lines to remove the master cylinder and necessary engine bay brake lines, i was planning to convert to disc any way. i only wanted to convert to disc in front and keep the original drums working in back. i have an OPGI restoration part book for my 71 ( opgi.com ) and they have a couple different kits: 1964-1972 power disc brake conversion kit - $850; Front disc brake conversion kit - $550; and a 12" front disc brake kit - $800. I only want to convert to a working front disc brake setup and keep the rear drum set up and make them both work together. im looking at this opgi book and i guess you have to get a master cylinder and booster that coorspons to the type of brake setup you have ( power disc master cylinder and booster wont work for drum brakes and vise versa)? is there a setup i can buy that will allow me to convert only the front to disc and allow me to operate all brakes on the same booster/ master cylinder setup and necessary components for less then what it cost to convert the whole car the disc? please help!

nomad,
i got my front end disc brake kit from MasterPower Brake.
i bought the complete setup. booster, M/C, rotors , calipers, etc.
found out later i could have used my old booster, so i sold the booster that came with the kit.
got an original proportioning valve from a forum member.
everything bolted up real nice.

I bought a power booster and master cylinder for a disk/drum set up from opg. I also bought a disk/drum proportioning valve. I converted from manual drum all around to power brakes with a stock used disk set up in front and the original drums in rear. The only other thing I had to do was modify some existing front lines and rebend some lines from scratch. I replaced old brake metering block with the prop valve. Here are the part number I ordered from OPG...
disk/drum prop valve: MPA350
1964-1977 power brake booster w/ disk master cylinder: LBS6872
I mounted the prop valve where old metering block was. rear lines bolted right to the prop valve w provided adapter. I bent new lines from m/c to prop valve and rebent original lines from prop valve to front disks.
I also bought new rubber brake hoses from hard lines to calipers...
OPG part #: PP00119
You will also have to mount a vacuum fitting onto your intake manifold. I used OPG # DIN38B2
E-mail me if you have any more questions. I just completed the swap last week. They work great. A world of difference.
If you need the disks too OPG has a whole kit that comes with everything you will need to do the swap.
Oh yeah, my swap was on a 68.
