The '69 375 horse Chevelles were rumored to have had them so I would believe the LS6 did as well.

I have a 70 SS 454 M22 El Camino that I ordered in feb. 1970. It was built 3rd wk. march 70, Its an LS 5 M 22. Balt. car. It had plastic inner fenders. The inner fenders had raised letters that said "made in canada" bob ACES 2825 70 SS 454 M22 Elky org. ownr. 70 SS454 red Sta. Wgn.driver

No.The plastic inners were most common in Baltimore built and Canada built cars

They were also not special to LS6 cars. Plenty of regular Malibus got them. LA-built 70's also had them often.

My Baltimore built 70 Malibu conv has its original plastic fenders (I presume that they are the originals, they sure are crap and cracked!).

Mine are cracked also. I thought maybe they were LS6 specific, but I guess not. Anyone know why some are plastic and some steel?

Both my LS6 Chevelle and El Camino have steel. Unbelievably I can't remember tonight where either one were built and I was just lookin' at the build sheets last week.

There are a few theories out there. Likely explanation is that it was due to suppliers. It seems that the plastic ones were introduced some time in the 69 model year. Interestingly, some cars appear to have been built with one of each. When I was working in the parts dept of a Chevy dealer back in the 80's, I remember these being ordered and coming in as both metal and plastic.
