This is on a 65 chevelle I have a few questions as to how to measure for a FAB 9 rearend anyone done this. The width of the houseing, I think if I make it flush with the frame rails this is about 2.5inches narrower then stock and I can adjust wheel backspaceing to whatever.I think I can use a slightly deeper rim the narrower the houseing, is that correct? 2nd is there a standard distance that the axle sticks out past the houseing end or what determines this distance. Stock appears to be about 3 in. If the disc brakes are sitting under the frame rail thet won't be interfearing with anytheing I can see yes or no ? . 3rd . Is the pinion offset a standard offset stock appears to be 3/4 in.is this the same on ford 9in. and gm 12 bolt. I'm only planning on 8in. wide tires at this point. Thanks for any help.

I know ladder bars are not a real popular choice here but I read all the arcived posts I could find and still have questions. Please reply evan if you don't like ladder bars I need some ideas.

You should have your housing ends on the outsides of your frame so the suspension travel will not hit anything. You can get the proper wheel offset to work with what you have. One way to get an idea is to set your wheels in there and measure flange to flange on your rims. Not sure about the axle sticking out, but the people that you are buying the housing from should know the answer to that, and anything about the pinion offset or angle.
Goodluck! CG

Thanks CG I was thinking The suspension wouldn't be traveling That far but your right if I hit any big bumps it could be a problem. Chassisworks wasen't real helpfull last time I called theres too many variables and they don't want to be responsible. I would think think they would have a data base of what works for a given car but no such luck. Again anyone know how far the axle can stick out past the houseing end?

what kind of rear end are you using ford or chevy.with only a 8 inch tire you shouldnt have any problems with a stock rear end.to get the right measurement you will have to measure from flange end to end and get the offset by using a strait edge on the flanges to the center of pinion yoke.if your going to use 14 inch rubber under her its going to be fun.the way i did mine was put the tires and wheels i was useing under the car and measured from outside to outside with a strait edge .with big tires give yourself at least 3 inches on each side of the tire and the quarters for tire removeal.i can measure a chevey rear end for you if you need it for axle extension .my chevelle is at my buddy shop so i cant run out and measure the 9 inch ford rear end right away but i think the axles were at least 3 inches out from the flanges but thats just a guess .

Thanks Alan well I thought that tires and wheels were going to be one of the last items I had to figure out but apparently it has to be the first. I guess I'll be spending time at tires and wheels first. I've got the body just hanging over the car so I can drop it back down and get the spaceing figured out.

tommy im going to work on my chevelle in the morning i will measure the axle extension for you i must have been thinking when i read your post at first i see you will be running a 9 inch ford.im sure you can do it with out buying your tires first.i just allready had mine so it was easer for me to do it that way.buy the way we cut my housing twice before we got it right and i had to send one axle back to mosier to be resplined because of the miscut another 82 dallar mistake .

Thanks Alan for checking that Thats the same as my stock one but yes it would suck if the disc brakes diden't fit. I spent some time going over it today with rims have laying around A GR60 that I have on a 8in. rim is 10 3/4 inches outside thats about as wide as I need to go. I'm going to cut the new setup down 2 in. from stock and call it good. Thats if I can find a rim I want with 3 in. Backspace.
