Sound good doesn't it? unfortunatly its got 2 broken rods mismatched heads 049 and 781 crank myay be usable, standard bore might get away sleeving the block but still for 50 bucks i couldn't pass it up. then I find a AC compressor and brackets except the one that goes to the back of the comp. to the intake. alt bracket, crank pulley, timing cover, for an additional 25 bucks. so for 75 bucks I cant wait to tear into it. hopefully the block isn't too ventilated. Gotta agree, cant beat the price. Sleeving the block is OK if you're not building too extreme. The heads you mentioned may be different casting numbers, but they're basically the same head...if you can get by the fact that the numbers aren't the same, they'll work. Good luck!! John

when I got my old 68 chevy truck, the 283 had the old power pack on one side and 350 head on the other, if I can ignore the 13/16 and 5/8 plug mismatch I can ignore the difference, actually I have a pair of 292 I had in the classifieds but Im going to keep them for this thing. I just pulled the broken piston. its definetly a wall hanger. I love carnage, hopefully the block can be saved though. Jim

049's and 781's are actually rather similar. I know that a while back someone built a motor with one of each. They have the same style combustion chambers, same style intake and exhaust ports, etc.

I looked at the bore, it looks like there is a V knocked out of the bottom of the cylinder about the size of 1/3 of a dime. Hopefullly I can get in there with a dremel and stress relieve it. now I got to pull the other head and yank the no. 7 piston and bent rod. No. 8 rod managed to get itself wedged in there sideways and bent the #7 rod. It doesnt look like a simple rering job for this motor. Jim
