I was doing a little reading in this section and saw referance to Bronze tipped fuel pump rods and distributor gears for Roller Cams.
The discussion involved big HP motors bt made me curious if this is needed on a 450HP 454 set-up with a stck replacement fuel pump.
Also curious on the Bronze distributor gear for a stock distributor set-up with Roller Cam.
Thanks

69,
It strictly has to do with the camshaft material, nothing else. True billet roller cams will need a bronze gear and probably a bronze tipped fuel pump rod. "Most" hydraulic rollers now days are a 2 piece cam with the back part, including the gear, made of a different material that allows you to run a stock distributor gear. There are too many variations to take a chance.... call the cam manufacturer and ask them. They will lnow the correct answer.

Hhhhm. Well, I have no idea what brand of Cam I have in there so I guess it would be safe to have the bronze-tipped rod and gear.

69,
Not neccessarily :( The gear and pushrod have to be compatable with the cam material. A bronze gear on a stock material cam might also cause a problem. Also, bronze gears tend to wear pretty quickly. Your best bet would be to pull the cam and find out what it is. Or ... if the engine came with a distributor, use the same type gear that was on it.
I've been using a Comp Cams "poly" gear have had 0 issues, bronze gears wear out.
