Im going to hopefully start to paint my chevelle in the next 2 weeks. But im not no expert painter. I know how to mix the paints and the general knowledge but im looking for a good job of paint and kind of lost because im using a base coat clear coat this time which i have never used so i want to know how many coats of base and then how many coats of clear should i use for a long lasting paint job.

The amount of base coat will depend a lot on the color. Some colors are more transparent than others, so apply base coat until you have complete coverage.
3 coats of clear is usually plenty. Maybe 4 if you plan on a Major sand and buff. If you have stripes, or graphics, more clear may be necessary to cover the edge, and allow for sanding and buffing.
