Does anyone ever use a tig welder to install replacement trunk/floor sections or body panels? Is the Mig welder the only way to go.
I have used both in an industrial setting and I am proficient using both but, I only have a tig in my garage.

I have a tig only in my shop. Just finishing up restoring a 66 chevelle wagon and a 68 chevy PU. Did alot of welding with my tig on both. If I do another, I will buy a mig for sure. It was very frustrating with the tig. You just can't get that old metal clean enough for the tig. But would not get rid of my tig for anything. For some things, there is no substitute..

i have both it dosent pay to tig weld steel if you have access to a mig welder and don't need pretty welds it just takes to long to tig weld you could weld probably 10 times faster with a mig welder

I don't know if there is any difference in the tensile strength of the two types of welds or not. Tig welded beads can made to look extremely neat, but a good MIG welder can do likewise.
