I want to lower the rear on my 67 and wonder why can't the spring tower which sets on the bottom of the spring and is 3'' tall be removed and cut down to the desirable height to give the height wanted. I'm sure there must be a reason as I've never heard of anybody doing it. You would be able to keep the stock ride and get the height wanted. Please tell me why

Since no one answered my post I looked at my assembly manual and I can't find a tower (spacer) in there like the one on my car. I was wondering if that was a option on a car with airshocks, maybe. Would someone with a 67 SS check their rearend coil springs and see if there's has a 3 '' spacer (tower) that the spring sets on. Thanks in advance.

There are no such thing as factory spring spacers used on the rear of an "A" body. I suspect somebody added one to jack up the rear. The spring should rest flat on the rear axle and flat aginst the frame.

Joe, That sounds like the 3" kit that was installed in my el Camino. Each is held in with one bolt. Just remove all the associated parts and set the spring back in the perch. Good luck removing the bolt if it's been on there for a while!

Changing the ride height is as easy as changing the coil springs in the rear. For optimal launch and handling you want the lower control arms to be parallel to the ground. :D

Thanks, Denny and Pat
You were right it was a 3'' spacer which I have removed. That brings up another question. What parts left over will keep the spring from falling out. The parts I have left over are a 4'' dished plate and (2) 2'' cups per side. The assembly manual doesn't show anything (hardware) holding spring in place, Doesn't the mentioned items secure the spring on the bottom someway? Thanks
