: Push Button Rod Length

The former owner of my car bent the rod to push up against the plate of my opening mechanism. This worked up until recently when I couldnn't get the door open. Seems that the rod turned so it was no longer making contact with the plate inside the door. I've got the new pushbuttons from our sponsor, and I'm looking at cutting down the rod for proper placement into the door. Has anybody done this already and have that measurement, or is it more specific to each car even if the same year? I took the instructions verbatim and measured the distance. It comes to 1.25". This seems like an awful lot to cut off of this rod. But maybe I'm just being paranoid.
Thanks for the help!

Just a thought pull out the old button and cut the new lenght about 1/2 longer than the old one. Try it and if its too long trim alittle http://www.chevelles.com/forum/smile.gif good luck

Are you sure that the previous owner bent the rods?
My 70 had the original interior, etc. and my push button rods were bent too.
I did what pmullaly suggested and one side worked great but the other would miss the lever on the door latch. I ordered a new push button and bent the rod (hard stuff) and it now works great.

I got new handles and buttons a couple years ago and the rods on both old and new were bent. I had to straighten out the bends some on the new ones to effectively lengthen them in order to get the doors to open. I'm guessing it was a case of one part fitting multiple year cars, but door thicknesses varied slightly from year to year.
