Gentlemen ( did a search, found only stuff about door seals and trunk seals too thick to close...good stuff, but not what is happening to me ). The trunk on my '69 Beaumont, and the little groove into which the weatherstrip seal fits is beginning to suck up water and rust. I have discovered that it was incorrectly installed by the body shop that repainted my car. It was never glued, only glue found was two big gobs of what appears to be silicon at the loose ends where the strip joins at the bottom ( so water has been finding its way in, and laying there a long time ). They went out of business, so I have no recourse. I saw a TV show that indicated you should take a tool like a wooden paint stir stick and go round and pop the small outer edge as deeply as it will go to complete the install. So far, I have not glued, just tinkered with it. The imporovement was immediately obvious, except for one thing. In the area I will call the top corners ( closest to the back window glass ), you can press it in, but it just comes back out....i.e. it's loose. Is there a technique to to this? Will it stay if glued? Do I need new weatherstripping? If there's a trick to that part, I'd sure like to know.
Thanks for any consideration and assistance.
