Both Intel and AMD chips are good. Check out www.tigerdirect.com (http://www.tigerdirect.com) for some great deals, I've been VERY happy with what I've bought there.

Main thing I'd recommend is 512K of memory for Windows XP, find a system that uses SATA drives too.

the FX's are really expensive, and will take a massive chunk out of ur budget. I would go for just your 64 3700+.

Decide if you want to go with a AGP or PCI-E video card. PCI-E is the future, and AGP is becoming obsolete, and two run 2 video cards you need PCI-E cards. ATI's version of Nvidia's SLI is crap compared to SLI though, but it'll improve im sure. The ATI X800XT AIW is $269 after mail in rebate, which is about the best u'll get for that price from ATI. You sure you need the AIW and not just VIVO?

Get 1 gig of ram, PC3200 or better. 512 isnt enough now days

I recommend a quality 430+ watt power supply, if you plan on 2 cards, get more wattage. A generic ~450 watt and case will likely be okay if you want to save some money, but the chances of PSU problems are greater. Its very important to get a case with good cooling characteristics

I like my Abit mobo, though the chipset fan is dying on me and what an annoying ear peircing sound. Still runs cool though. 19*C

If you dont have an optical or laser mouse, get one while your at it.

With video editing your going to want good software. Virtual dub, Vegas Video, etc.
