: How to tell if '67 SS was an L78 car?
Derek69SS Jan 20th, 06, 7:44 PM I've got a lead on a '67 SS396/4-speed non-AC car with 12-bolt and F-41 suspension.
Is there any way to tell what engine it had? I don't know the earlier cars very well. Can you tell by the fuel-line or is there anything on the trim-tag that would verify what engine it had?
It is missing the engine and transmission, but it does have a 138 vin and a clean title. I'm going to look at it tomorrow.
Thanks :)
keithb Jan 20th, 06, 7:48 PM if it has the blinker tach in the car yet. you could go by the red line
Wheelhop Jan 20th, 06, 7:53 PM I know in 69 model year you could look at the fuel line, the high horse had the single line. Not sure about 67's, sorry.
LS6-M22 Jan 20th, 06, 8:24 PM F41 suspension??
EddieC67ss Jan 20th, 06, 10:42 PM Build sheet. All 67ss had 3/8 fuel lines. EG or EX on front engine pad and serial # of car.
Derek69SS Jan 21st, 06, 1:14 PM F41 suspension??It has a rear sway-bar and boxed lower arms.
The engine & trans are missing, and the bucket-seat interior is stripped...
It sounds like a pretty rough/rusty body too, but still has a 12-bolt. The guy is asking $1000 for the car. I'm just thinking about ebay'ing it, or parting out what's left for some extra cash to spend on my '69.
Enganeer Jan 21st, 06, 1:22 PM Derek,
If you part it out, let me know about the 12 bolt.

Mr Chevelle Jan 21st, 06, 3:12 PM I'm pretty sure F41 didn't come along until 1969.
Derek69SS Jan 21st, 06, 8:00 PM I'm pretty sure F41 didn't come along until 1969.You may be right, I don't know... it does have boxed arms and a rear sway-bar, and what looked like a 15/16" front sway-bar. Those could have been added later.

You were talking about the frame stiffeners I bet, although those are stock on SS's it's not F-41 but we know what you meant. JN
Chris R Jan 21st, 06, 11:46 PM All big blocks had the same size fuel line, 3/8. So that rules that out. The guy in northern Minnesota that found the 67SS in a barn was asking about the very same thing too. He didnt have a original engine to go off of to tell what HP rating it was originally.

Well, one things for sure, you won't need a build sheet to tell you it wasn't an L78 car if youve got A/C. Sad, because mines got factory A/C:sad: . jn
Derek69SS Jan 22nd, 06, 11:36 AM You were talking about the frame stiffeners I bet.No it has boxed lower arms and a rear sway-bar. I forgot to look to see if it had the stiffeners. My '69s have the stiffeners, but no boxed arms. If that wasn't available, it must have been added from a later car. It also had some coil-over rear shocks to jack the rear up, so someone obviously had some wheel-hop they wanted to cure.
