'69 driver door mirror. Just pulled mine, and base/arm appear to be "chrome plated plastic" (need to use magnet I guess). Was this original to car or would it be cheap crap aftermarket?

original should be metal. I've never even seen one that is plastic.
You should describe the shape and size of the mirror a little better for us.

appears to be generally same shape/design as original based on pictures in catalogs and ebay ads.... Mounts via single screw to metal bracket that mounts to car door with two screws. I scratched inside of mounting (hollow) arm and continue to be pretty sure that it is plastic. "Chrome" is wearing off of it as well to a plasticky looking surface. It is also extremely light, which was the first thing that made me ask the question.
