: Where to get the Powertrax Lock Rite for 8.2
jeffc Jan 19th, 06, 6:27 PM I thought a bunch of you picked these up at Jegs, but I don't see them on the web site. Anybody have a good vendor for the cheap(er) Lock Rite?
I think I have the bug and me and the nephew are going racing! :D
sschevellefan Jan 19th, 06, 7:05 PM Summit racing sells them. They are about $250. I don`t know the part number but I`ve seen them online or in their book.
HPseeker Jan 19th, 06, 7:32 PM Here is what you are looking for :D , JEG'S $229.99 ,good luck

Gloryhound Jan 19th, 06, 8:15 PM How well do these hold up? They are alot cheaper then a new detroit locker or eaton. If they can hold up to power I might use one to save a couple bucks.
bigdog454 Jan 19th, 06, 8:28 PM I've got one in my convertible, with the original 8.2 10-bolt, and alhtough I've not put a bunch of miles on it, it has not given me any problems.
HPseeker Jan 19th, 06, 8:31 PM My car got one and is making 1.65 in the 60' with 28 spline Moser axels, I do not know how much HP the Powertrax Lock RIte can handle but the are strong ,I wish a had a 30 splines axels .
Slowpoke70 Jan 20th, 06, 1:04 AM Jeg's price for the 8.2 is actually 275, the 12 bolt and 8.5" are considerably cheaper.
I got mine from summit, a little cheaper. Installation is really easy, two hours total.
I haven't had a chance to test it as it was a rear end swap and I had to bleed the brakes and the bleeder screws broke off, still in the process of replacing one of the caliper that got damaged when a bleeder came off with part of the caliper, oops.
dirtrocker Jan 20th, 06, 4:09 AM Although I have no personal experience, this is what I have read.
These things work good, but only in a diff that is not wore. Throwing one of these in a rear that has play and ware is a recipe for disaster.
novadude Jan 20th, 06, 9:38 AM So how bad do these affect handling? Let's say you like to burn up the corners occasionally... should you avoid the powertrax? Is this more a "strip only" deal?
wanarace Jan 20th, 06, 2:10 PM Let's say you like to burn up the corners occasionally
If you like going around corners sideways, they are perfect. Accelerating around a corner without sliding, does not work too well. Remember they are designed to lock under power, and unlock when not on the gas.

cobra2411 Jan 20th, 06, 3:51 PM Lockers drive the inner wheel in turns. I've heard some people say they have "spooky" handling, but most 4x4er's that I know that have lockers say you get used to it and it's no big deal.
Bottom line is it changes how your car handles, so take it easy till you know how it will react. Same is true for any handling upgrade.
I'm seriously thinking of putting one in my truck because I hate the one-legger.

bigdog454 Jan 20th, 06, 11:57 PM Like the other guys have said, if you gas it through corners you can get sideways, however you also get used to the feel real quick. You don't have to coast on a turn, though, a little gas is OK, but a little more and it wants to lock.
ToyzRMe Jan 21st, 06, 10:36 AM I put one in the 8.2 in my '67 Camaro back in October and it works exceptionally well.
I have sticky Hoosier tires on it and have pounded the heck out of it for 3 months now. No problems at all. I'm not a roadracer so I can't comment on its handling at the outer limits of reason but in daily driving I have no issues at all with it.
In a straight line like at the dragstrip, it works perfectly. As a plus, it's real easy to install and will definitely make both legs push!

mr 4 speed Jan 21st, 06, 11:05 AM I bought mine used..and I've gone over 10K miles with it
70 beater Jan 21st, 06, 7:29 PM I have the 8.2 and truck 12 bolt, truck is over 100,000 miles 8.2 is getting close to that. One of the best things I've done.Takes a little getting used to,extra care in inclement weather.I've pounded them at the track on nitrous and slicks to driving in ice and snow, fine if you're careful.
