I just bought my first plug reading light. It is the Moroso unit with the "AA" batteries. I am having a hard time seeing all the way down into the plug. Is that the case with all of the plug readers? I have been looking down into new R43ts plugs, so they are the standard heat range. Will looking into colder plugs be easier? Or is this light a P.O.S.? It seems to illuminate okay it's just that the area is out of focus and I have tried holding the plug in all different distances and angles. Or is it easier to grasp and view once the plugs have been run in the engine?

Thanks
Milan

I'm not familiar with that Moroso unit, but the one that I have has two levels of magnification. The large window area can be used to read the ground strap and top of the plug. There is a round magnifier built into the main glass that provides further magnification to look into the botton of the plug.

Kjett, what kind do you have. I just bought a Moroso unit but have not used it yet. Maybe I should send it back.

Milan - there is a tool you can buy called a Otoscope that is designed for looking in your ear, like at the doctors office, that make it easier to see down into the plug. Those are available on the net starting around $57 or from some carb companies along with a video for $165.

Another option is to cut the plug which makes it very easy to see the fuel ring, for example this one which shows a very rich mixture with detonation...

Mine came as part of a plug indexing kit that I purchased from Summit for ~$50. It is made by CSR. Here is a link:
