My 68 parking brake was in need of adjustment. Anyway I pushed the parking brake to the floor and something snapped. Now the parking brake pedal will not return when released. I cannot find a broken spring on the assembly. What causes the pedal to return??? Thanks

68,
there is a spring on the outside of the parking brake cable.
look under the driver's side. there should be a clip that keeps the cable locked in the frame, right under your feet.
maybe that is what you heard snap.

You may have snapped a cable or it could have popped off the arm inside the drum.Take a look under the car and see if the cable is still tight with the parking brake depressed fully.

I figured it out. The cable hook that hooks into the cross member bent and the cable was unhooked. I did not see the hook due to it was still hooked to the cross member. How ever I did figure out that there is no spring on the parking brake assembly. The spring is on the front cable as 6t7 stated. All is well now. Thanks again for your help.
