I am running 4 wheel discs on a 1964 chevelle wagon and need to figure out Proportioning valve for 4 wheel disc. I need the type that mounts on the frame rail below the master cylinder. I have heard that some people have taken the guts out of a disc drum master prop valve and used a adjustable valve for the rear brakes....Is that a good way? I have a few wrecking yards nearby if anyone knows a late model car to get a prop valve off of. Erik

Why jack with junkyard parts when good new ones aren't that expensive?

That second link is not really a prop valve. It's a needle valve, like a water spigot, and adjusts flow at all times. The first one properly regulates pressure only above the limit you adjust it to for panic braking, and allows full pressure below that point.

You could just use your current splitter on the 64, plug the rear outlet, and run a line from the rear of the master to an adjustable valve, then to the rear brakes.

As far as gutting a later style combination valve, it depends on which type you aquire. Some are more difficult than others. I dont know an exact model that would be best, but I do know the GM brass ones dont have a serviceable rear prop valve, and any with a front metering valve will need a plug once the front spring and stem are removed. Also the later ones will use metric ISO fittings.

The stock brakes on my 64 just had a T because it had single master cylinder with 4 wheel drums. The brake line set I bought is for a prop valve that is mounted on the frame. It just seems that I would need a prop valve for a 4 wheel disc car or a prop valve that does not have the guts and a adj proportioning valve. Anyone done this before 1964-67 four wheel disc??? What did you do?

I would plumb the front brakes directly to the M/C and use an adjustable prop valve for the rear. On our road racer I use one of the ones with a handle on it. Works like a trained pig. If you want to have a shuttle switch for the fail light, use one from a 67 drum/drum car.

The stock brakes on my 64 just had a T because it had single master cylinder with 4 wheel drums. I thought the cars with single outlet masters had 3 outlets on that junction. Sorry.
