I am rebuilding a 68 Chevelle SS 396, will A stock HEI distributor fit on this motor with out firewall modifications?

502, if you want to get real trick and are keeping the engine bay somewhat original ( cool way to hide a 502 IMO), IGNITIONMAN coverts small base distrib to HEI. Stealth!

502,
Pertronix also sells a unit that will convert your old style points distributor to a breakerless system. This will allow the stock look but will give the performance and reliability of electronic systems. With a good aftermarket coil this would seem to be the hot set up. Look here for more info.http://www.pertronix.com/ignitor.htm
Good luck!

Do a search based on IGNITIONMAN, he has tons of advice on installing, calibrating, rebuilding HEIs...should answer your questions...Oh, my Elky has HEI, with no problems, other than too much advance (still stock)...IGNITIONMAN has taught me what I need to fix though.
