: 67 Chevelle power disc master cyl.
RoyalPlum67SS Jan 17th, 06, 11:54 AM Did the master cylinder on 67 Chevelles with power disc brakes have bleeders on the master cyl.? I've had a guy tell me that they did but my assembly manual does not show them and I don't recall seeing them on a 67.
Thanks
chevry Jan 17th, 06, 4:13 PM Master cylinder casting 5460346, 1967 Chevelle part# 5469489, code SA.
The casting is set up to allow bleeder screws. Service replacement cylinders normally had none, factory cylinders normally did.
The service manual may mention bleeding with those at the master, and also an alternative method when no screws are provided.
So anyway, I don't know the answer to your question for sure. I think it did have the bleeders from the factory. That same part#/code was also used on B-body and F-body cars. As far as I know, it should have them.
RoyalPlum67SS Jan 18th, 06, 1:32 AM Thanks Chevry. I'm trying to put my 67 back as much original as possible and have been checking into the master cylinders and this is the first I've heard of the bleeders being on the master cylinder in 67. I knew they were on the 69-70 cars.
Thanks again
RoyalPlum67SS Jan 18th, 06, 7:50 PM Hey chevry, the casting # the guy says I need is 5468309 on the master cylinder. Do you have a way of checking that #? Does it also come back to the 67 Chevelle?
Thanks.
chevry Jan 18th, 06, 7:58 PM The 5468309 casting is for 1969 cars, code BA for the Chevelle, I don't have the part#.
Either one would work, as well as several other reproduction masters or later OE castings. The 346 and 309 castings are similar in appearence.
RoyalPlum67SS Jan 18th, 06, 9:30 PM OK but which one is correct for 67 Chevelle? I have a guy telling me that 5460346 code SA is for 67 Corvette and Camaro. He says that 67 Chevelle had the 5468309.
chevry Jan 18th, 06, 9:56 PM 5460346 Code PG is for Corvette.
The part# listed for a 1967 Chevelle with disc brakes is 5469489.
Part# 5469489 master cylinder has a 5460346 casting# with an SA code on the front machined pad.
If you have a 1967 Factory service manual, verify the code info. If it says SA, it is a 5460346 master casting.
The 5468309 Casting was used in 1969 only. BA code for Chevelle, GA for Firebird, EA for GTO/Lemans, and US for Camaro.
5460346 code SA was for Impala, Camaro, Chevelle in 67. Impala I think retained it for later years.
5460346 code WT was also used on some Camaros and Novas
5460346 code FR was used on 1968 Firebird.
5460346 code GD was 1968 Tempest manual brakes.
5460346 code DW was 1968 Tempest power brakes.
If anyone has the code info for the 1968 Chevelle master, I'd appreciate it. Part# 5468811.
RoyalPlum67SS Jan 19th, 06, 3:22 PM Chevry, I don't have a service manual, all I have is an assembly manual. I looked in it and I can find the master cylinder #. All I could find was the (booster and master cylinder) in the drawing together and it came up being part # (5460709) with the words (cylinder assembly) beside it, and below that a (3908757) with the word (opt.) beside it. I think that you are correct on the master cylinder though.
chevry Jan 19th, 06, 3:59 PM That's interesting. I dont have that # anywhere. The closest I have is a 5470409 which is a rectangular casting, 1 1/8", for disc/drum brakes, starting in 1970, with a BB stamp for Chevelle. I also have the 409 cast BE and EB stamps, but I don't know what they're for yet.
Point of interest, the only SA stamped cylinder I ever saw had the casting# upside down. I still have a picture of the upside down casting#. It is also the only 346 master I've seen with the # cast in upside down.
alancolvin Feb 9th, 12, 2:01 PM Can you show me an example of where in the service manual the codes would be listed?
the heckler Feb 9th, 12, 4:42 PM dont know any casting numbers but I do remember there being bleeders on the original m/c in my 67ss396. just before I threw it in the garbage 20+ years ago...along with the rare brake calipers too....
chevry Feb 9th, 12, 9:07 PM Can you show me an example of where in the service manual the codes would be listed?
In my Pontiac manual there is a "master cylinder usage chart" in the brakes section.
