I need some help with a problem I've found. I have noticed rust on the floor pan of my 65 HT. The schmuck that had the car before me was like a left-over BeeGee or something, because he put shag carpet and wood paneling in it! http://www.chevelles.com/forum/mad.gif Anyway I was wondering if I need to replace the floor, or if there is something I can do to keep it from getting worse. It seems like it is still pretty solid, and when we took out the "carpet" it appeared to be just surface rust, as we were able to scrape it off. I have heard of a product called Por-15
that is supposed to take care of mild rust. Has anyone used this, or know anyone that has? I really dont want to replace the floor unless I absolutely have to.

I'm in the process of doing the same thing. I actually have a post going about it now... http://www.chevelles.com/forum/Forum29/HTML/002079.html

Here is a pic of what I found when I pulled the carpet http://www.erols.com/ruther/69conv/floor_board.jpg

I am using the POR-15 too. I have used it before and the frame and susspension parts and I think it's worth the money.

Hope this helps.

Follow the POR-15 instructions to a "T", and it will turn out "Perfecto".

I have some surface rust on my floorpans too, and some very small holes where some sloppy patchwork was done(thank you, previous owner). Between POR-15 paint and POR-Patch the floor is now strong and shiny. It shouldn't rust on you if you do it right! POR-15, the miracle product http://www.chevelles.com/forum/smile.gif

If you have just a few isolated pinholes in the floor, the Por 15 will work fine along with the fibermesh product they also sell. But if you have gaping holes or the sheetmetal is so thin you can almost punch through it, then you'll need to weld in new floors, which are available from a number of suppliers.
