David72Elky Mar 1st, 02, 4:08 PM Polishing and or buffing.....there will be many methods that you will get with this subject as well as plenty of different opinions, so here are mine, from my experiance.
Chrome, I recently buffed out my original rear chrome bumper on my El Camino. Basically I used about 1/4 tube of Semi-Chrome polish with a buffing wheel on my hand drill. I was amazed as to how well it came out. I could actually get into the fine scratches and remove them. But do this to your parts carefully. Wipe your part off with a soft cloth and then clean off with window cleaner before continuing. The same could be accomplished with other pieces of chrome parts as well as stainless parts ie window moldings.
Anodized Aluminum, I also used the Semi-Chorme for that as well, but only did this by hand as the wheel can heat up the part and will remove the clear anodize and then get into the metal below leaving a feathering effect. I used this on my whell well moldings with very satisfying results.
Plain Aluminum, I also use a product called Never Dull. It comes in a small can with a specially treated tear off cloth. I use this on the uncoated aluminum. This breaks down the aluminum and can be polished to a shine that is desireable to you. This works especially well on aluminized exhausts systems.

normie Mar 2nd, 02, 8:21 AM Snake... Many people either leave work early on friday's or are up too they're ears in last minute work.. then thye shove off quickly for the weekend. "SHAME ON YOU ALL" isn't the way to illicit more info from folks. However, eastwood makes polishing compuonds with varying grit and compound for different types of metals, as well as sell good buffing wheels.. Another product people RAVE about is WENOL (SP).. Depending on the quality and condition of your trim, your going too have many different options. Stainless 30 year old trim on my car (they were pretty bad IMHO) polished up nicely on a grinder with buffing pads, and the eastwood products until I was satisfied with the polish and scratch/crud removal.

chevl71 Mar 2nd, 02, 9:01 AM I have an old electric furnace blower motor bolted to the work bench. Using Eastwoods shaft adapter, buffing wheels and compound bars, this allows you to hold the small parts with two hands to buff them. Works great on the stainless. I've also done aluminum valve covers with great results.
But I had a heck of a time doing that bumper while it was still on the car http://www.chevelles.com/forum/biggrin.gif
