: Has anyone ever used.........
chewyman1 Jan 14th, 06, 9:18 PM A fuel injection setup off of a marine big block? I recently purchased a Mercruiser MPI injection setup off of a 502 BBC that was in a boat, I got the cam, wiring, manifold, pretty much everything needed to make it work on a land boat like my 67. I was just wondering if anyone had ever tried this approach as a more economical approach to fuel injecting a big block. If so, any problems getting it to work, any advice, anything would be helpfull.
THanks, Matt
69-CHVL Jan 14th, 06, 9:46 PM I'm interested in this also...seem alot of these setup's on ebay. Not too many know alot about this sort of thing I'm afraid.
Tom Mobley Jan 14th, 06, 9:50 PM no advice, but interested in the project. is the manifold an oval port ot peanut port? is it a 4-bbl throttle body or what? some kind of tuned port deal? does the computer show any eveidence of being programmable? a removeable PROM or some sort of data port?
this might work pretty good as marine stuff is often optimized for power rather than economy or emissions.

I have one of those set-ups in my garage. Was going to use it on a 427 bbc but sold the engine. I'd make someone a heckuva deal on it. :D
69-CHVL Jan 14th, 06, 10:45 PM I'm thinking there will be hood clearance issues. Does that intake look like the one on the RamJet 502?
Schurkey Jan 15th, 06, 12:23 AM If it uses the itty-bitty computer like a Ramjet, the computer is supposedly "NOT" re-programable. There are companies that offer custom-programmed ones, though. Maybe the marine unit will have calibration that is "close enough".

The other issue is that the ecm does not use an 02 sensor so the ecm will run your engine from software in it that was designed for the engine the FI came off ...... the Fi will work but you will need to get a programable ecm the one that comes with it will be useless ...... it will run but not well
chewyman1 Jan 15th, 06, 7:52 PM I don't think it's a re-programmable computer, so we'll just have to see when I fire it up to see how she's gonna run, and what sort of problems the non o2 sensor setup runs, I can't imagine that it will have that big of an effect on it, since it was originally designed to run without one, but we'll just have to see. It is an oval port setup, and the manifold is more like a ram jet sutup than a throttle body, but really, it's really it's own setup, if I could put a pic in here I would to show it off, it's a pretty cool look, but will require some re-routing of the throttle cable since it's on the opposite side of the motor. As for hood clearance, it's gonna be tight, so I think I'll probably invest in a 2" cowl, and mount it back a little ways on the hood to give it a different look than the typical cowl hood.
69-CHVL Jan 15th, 06, 8:03 PM Is this it?

chewyman1 Jan 15th, 06, 8:10 PM Yes, close, but mine says magnum 502 on the top instead of the 7.4LX
CDN SS Jan 16th, 06, 12:13 AM Cam and compression will need to be close for it to run Ok ......but trust me you will be a lot happier if it had an o2 sensor controlling the fwul needs ...... I think Street and Performance has a kit to add an 02 sensor to that ecm or send it someone who can reprogram for your engines spec
cobra2411 Jan 16th, 06, 12:41 AM How about adding one of those micro-squirt efi computers to it? You know the little assemble at home thiggy that was in one of the mags a year or two ago?
Could be a cheap way to go efi.
