After many trials and tribulations, Ole Paint will soon have new paint. Finally I can see some cranberry red parts here and there!!! www.chevelles.com/showroom/seeingred.jpg (http://www.chevelles.com/showroom/seeingred.jpg)

Are you painting the whole car apart,or are just edging?

Yes, I decided to paint the parts , then reassemble. It is a color change plus I had to rebuild the hinges, also, one fender and one inner fender had to be replaced. It's much easier for me to do the dent and ding repair plus I can paint these parts laying flat which will help a rookie like me reduce he chance of runs(only one small one so far).

I must admit however that I am worried about damaging the parts during assembly but I'm going to wrap the pieces in plastic and maybe this will help, I used to do that when assembling custom motorcycles with good success.

I was thinking of doing it tht way to,because i hate that tape line between the jamb and the outer side.Just run masking tape on the edges befor you assemble it.Looks good though.

James,

Lookin' good! FWIW, when I redid our 69 Impala, I had all the parts painted off the car. Just put a strip of masking tape on the fender & door edges when I hung 'em, and got off without a nick. Take your time & be careful, and you can do it. Definitely worth the effort.

Thanks guys!!! Just shot the doors today after work, now I've got to move things out and bring Ole Paint back in for its treatment.

By the way Jeff, Ole Paint will always be Ole Paint!

Excellent! I am at the same stage as Big James 4XL. My Chevelle looked just like his pic here: Big James 4XL pic (http://www.chevelles.com/showroom/workgoeson1.jpg)

This past weekend we painted the trunk with GM trunk spatter paint and clearcoated it. Also painted the area where the trunk weatherstrip goes and in back of where the rear bumper mounts (rear outer part of trunk). Also painted the doors and fenders. Wish I had a digicam - maybe I'll borrow one and post the pics soon. Will squirt some cran red paint on entire car sometime in the next few weeks to a month. I don't think I'm going to be making it to Super Chevy this Aug. http://www.chevelles.com/forum/frown.gif
