I just put a 750eldebrock carb on my chevelle with an electric choke. The problem is that the electric choke is in the way of air filter sitting properly on the carberator.
The filter that is not fitting now is a 14in
drop base with a 3in element. Has anyone
had this same situation arise. and what did
you do?

I have run into this probelm w/ a Q-Jet and a Carter. What you need is a air cleaner spacer or a flat base air cleaner.

On my 66 I have the drop base 3" air cleaner with a edelbrok carb. It has very limited space to close the hood Im sure the 1" carb spacer dont help, but anyway I just took a ballpeen hamer and slightiy dented in the bottom of the base of the air cleaner by the electric choke and it now fits fine and you cant even tell that i did it from the outside http://www.chevelles.com/forum/cool.gif

I have a Chevrolet Chrome 14" drop base on my El Camino (283) with a Holley w/Electric choke (from a F*rd 460) and a Qjet on the Monte (BB 402) and they both clear just fine. That base has a big area to clear the choke. I even have an HEI on both
But the hammer treatment is cheaper.

sickboy, you can get a 3/4" spacer from summit for 13.50$ #EDL-8092 by Edelbrock I had to do the same on my 600 edel. carb. and my 14" cleaner.
