: New Car! New Name! New Membership!
Slick71ss Jan 13th, 06, 10:18 PM Since I now have a 71 Chevelle, decided to change my user name and pay my dues to become a member. "Future 69 Malibu Owner?" for some reason didn't seem appropriate anymore. I'm not much of a forum "talker", but I'll have my fair share of questions since this is my 1st Chevelle.
For those of you who haven't seen the car I bought, here's a pic...

Just picked her up yesterday! Also got pulled over in it for the 1st time yesterday! :D We were "test" driving it before loading it up on the trailer. Well, turns out we "test" drove it past 2 cops. We were honest and just told them that I was buying the car and wanted to see what it could do. They ran our licenses and then let us go! We were sooo lucky!!! I mean, this test drive was a full 1/4 mile run!
I have all winter to get the car where I want it. Just gonna do a lot of cleaning and do cosmetic things such as...
rechrome bumpers
replace a few trim pieces
new hood hinges
new wheels/tires
new fan shroud
maybe add passenger side mirror
Minor bolt on stuff is all. Anyways, looking forward to all the help and knowledge from the board members!
BB68 Jan 13th, 06, 10:20 PM Very nice.
Slick71ss Jan 13th, 06, 10:27 PM Thanks man.
More pics/specs can be seen in a previous thread that I posted before I knew it was a done deal...

No. I had to up my offer to 21k.
Congratulations!! Very nice car! Any idea on the wheels already?
I always liked the old school Crager SS. I'm gonna check out a bunch of pics to see what else stands out as well.

Yeah, everyone hear seems to hate mud flaps. I don't like the looks of them, but might leave them for now. They seem to greatly reduce rock chips.
What's tough about the mirror? Hard to find?
Joeks Jan 14th, 06, 12:36 AM Nice looking ride!
chevelless502 Jan 14th, 06, 8:41 AM Very smooth, i really like it alot. I will probably catch some flack for this but, for wheels some 16" Torque Thrusts would look very nice. Not to "blingy" but still update the car from the current wheels.
Nice ride congrats :beers:

1971 Chevelle Jan 14th, 06, 10:23 AM How do you like your Rossler transmission? My engine builder is friends with him and he suggested him.
ssal396 Jan 14th, 06, 10:55 AM Nice ride, hope to see you at some local shows this summer..

Slick71ss Jan 14th, 06, 11:52 AM How do you like your Rossler transmission? My engine builder is friends with him and he suggested him.
To tell you the truth, I've only driven the car a couple times, so it's not much to judge by. It has a street/strip th400 that can be driven on the street as fully automatic or you can shift it at the track. So far seems like a great trans. I have a 3600 stall in it and I'm not used to that yet. Anyways, I did a lot of research on the internet about Rossler before I bought the car and it seems he is one of the top rated transmission guys out there.
Nice ride, hope to see you at some local shows this summer..
I usually don't travel far from home in my hotrods, but I'm sure I'll meet you or at least your car at a show this year! Any particular one I shouldn't miss? Last year ,with the Camaro, I just went to the local cruise-ins. Quaker Steak in Sheffield, Avon Commons, some in Lorain and Elyria.

I don't really like the torque thrusts. I'm old school and like a 15" wheel with big, fat rubber around them. Although the current wheels are out dated, I would use them if they were in better shape. They have some of the little rust specs here and there.
CITY GIRL Jan 14th, 06, 2:19 PM I love the sst's...NICE MACHINE!...nicole
CITY GIRL Jan 14th, 06, 2:20 PM CONGRATS !!! I love the sst's...NICE MACHINE!...nicole
-SS454- Jan 14th, 06, 6:15 PM Very nice car. ZZ502, not too shabby haha. Awesome! I would ditch the mud flaps, and me personally would go for some different rims, but for what you got its great. Congradulations.
Slick71ss Jan 14th, 06, 9:48 PM Thanks. I honestly think I paid a little too much for the car. I was tired of looking for a good deal. You sure don't get much for 20k these days. After another couple grand and some work, I'll be happy with it.
68postcar Jan 14th, 06, 10:00 PM beautiful car! congrats! it's going to take a while till my 68 looks that clean.
Freddy Mercado Jan 14th, 06, 11:30 PM Nice car man!!!
Daren71 Jan 14th, 06, 11:45 PM Congrats on the new car. I've been following your posts on your search. The '71 looks fine (except the flaps:) ) You've got a really nice car to drive and work on, but I can say all this since I'm kinda a partial to the year. Daren

D Stroud Jan 15th, 06, 10:30 PM You did good! Sweet Ride!
Slick71ss Jan 15th, 06, 10:55 PM Thanks man. Recognise the screen name from nastyZ28!
chevelledude71 Jan 16th, 06, 4:11 AM Nice looking ride and I like the ProStars on the Camaro and I like them on my Chevelle. ProStars would look good on your Chevelle too in my opinion.
Slick71ss Jan 16th, 06, 11:42 AM The Camaro is gone. :( I did like the prostars on it, but I don't know about putting them on the Chevelle. Although they look good on your ride! As of now I'm thinking old school Crager SS rims.
Gazzer Jan 16th, 06, 12:30 PM Wanna Race ?....Just Kidding, Nice Car, even though it's not a 69:D
Congrats, and welcome to the world of Chevelle's !
Gaz:beers:
gigem Jan 16th, 06, 1:34 PM What's tough about the mirror? Hard to find?
Very. Bullet passenger side mirrors are Chevelle-specific. You will see many people selling Camaro ones, but they won't fit or look right. Some folks have modified stuff to fit, but a correct passenger side bullet mirror might sell for $300 or more, and that's one that needs painted and restored. And that's when you can find one, which is never. Someone was selling one here on this site a while ago.
I gave up looking and decided to just get used to looking over my should more often...
Slick71ss Jan 16th, 06, 2:03 PM I see. Kind of sucks not having a passenger mirror! Thanks for the info.
woodstock Jan 16th, 06, 3:47 PM Congrats on finally finding that elusive Chevelle. Looks great!
obseSSed Jan 16th, 06, 4:00 PM I'm partial to 69's too. Smokin car :) If your velle runs as good as it looks it ought to haul!!!
Slick71ss Jan 16th, 06, 9:32 PM Sat down and ordered close to $1000 in parts today. I'll have her looking even better before spring!
Most of that is for bumpers from tri-city though.
