i'm replacing the my stock radiator and i've noticed some rust on the rad. support below the battery area. the body bushing brackets are in pretty bad shape too is this typical? i'd rather use the original support because it's thicker and the fenders line up well with it. sound like a good plan? or would you recommend an aftermarket replacement support?

I had the same problem on my core support, but both mounting brackets were rusted out. There is a three layer sandwich there. I just cut out the rusty layer and fabbed a couple of new patch panels and welded them in. Had to use a plasma torch to cut the holes for the bushings, but it was a pretty easy fix.

There's probably a cheaper way, but I'd also buy an Optima battery to keep this from happening again. The battery is completely sealed and won't cause any acid corrosion whatsoever, plus it lasts twice as long as a standard battery.
I have one in my S10 and love it. I left my lights on at 8am one morning, & at 3pm there was still enough juice left in it to crank my truck. I was also hit in the front end by someone who was going 45 mph, and the battery somehow survived (the only thing adjacent to the core support that did,) and it STILL doesn't leak.

good info. thanks i've already moved the battery to the trunk. i had por 15'ed the support which stopped the rust and it was hard to see under the battery. now after relocating the batt. it really shows up. should be a good project.
thanks john
