Hi All...anybody happen to know the size of the stock bleeder valve on the rear brakes of a 64 Chevelle?

Seperately, I converted the fronts to disc brakes - this was a kit bought through Matt's Classic Bowties that is manufactured by CPP - it is as described below:

"This is a complete 11" rotor power disc brake conversion for your 64-72 Chevelle or A-body GM. It comes complete with NEW cadnium plated 11" booster (64-66 uses a 9" stock booster), NEW CPP dual ported master cyl. and a GM delco prop. valve with lines. The wheel assemblies are also complete and PRE-ASSEMBLED eliminating the need for you to pack bearings, press seals, ect.. ITS ALL DONE! All you need with our kit is some good DOT3 brake fluid! Kit is lifetime warrantied and made from top quality components. The ONLY rebuilt part of this kit is the calipers. THATS IT!!! The kit does include a "conversion line set" to ease the install process and eliminate the need for you to cut or flare brake lines!"

I know others have bought this kit (although i am not sure if for the 64 - any idea of bleeder valve size on this one?

As always, many thanks in advance.

I'm not sure if it helps you at all, but my '69 has rebuilt calipers from Cardone. The bleeders are different sizes from one side to the other. My guess is that one needed the threads cleaned up, so they redrilled & tapped it the next size bigger.

There seems to be at least two different bleeders for the front calipers. The calipers (new, not rebuilt) that came with my brake kit had larger bleeders than on an old set I have, and I think they were actually metric. They had both dimensions at Autozone, so you should be able to find them easily.

I have only seen one dimension for the rear cylinders, but can't remember what it is. It's entirely possible that there are different dimensions for these too, depending on manufacturer.

Try your local parts store, bleeders are cheap so if there are different dimensions to choose from, you can just buy what they have got and try them. I usually try to just bring the part to the store, and try it there.

The calipers from the front disc that come with many of the kits are from the mid-80's Monte Carlo and S-10. They're metric - 10mm. For the back bleeders, the stock size on the rears are 5/16. When I went to remove one of the rear bleeders, I snapped it off and had to replace the wheel cylinder. Wasn't that difficult, especially if you're replacing the lines.

One note.. When I went to bleed the rear brakes, the one side wouldn't bleed. I noticed that the exhaust pipe must have been dropped on the line at one time and dented it. Replaced those, too.

Thanks for the info! One of the reasons why I love Chevrolet and GM is the interchangeability... one size fits all. :)
