Hey guys, I haven't posted in a while, but I'm still around.

I no longer have the 1969 potential L78 car. It was too far gone to save and the engine search was a dead end.

On the other hand, I have a 69 Malibu convert now, in much better shape, ready to restore.

Here's the thing: My cowl tag build code is 11A which is the first week of November (1968 I presume). However my Body by Fisher sequence number is 00062. Isn't it kind of late after the start of production year to have such a low body sequence number?

The tag looks legit.

Here's the whole thing:

ST 69-13667 BF 00062 BDY
TR 764 51A PNT
11A 408643-580781

VIN is: 136679Z314232

I know what it all means, just thought it was strange to have such a low body number.

Also, is there any knowledge of when the early 1969 cowl tags stopped being made and late 1969 tags became the norm?

Thanks,
Dave

Dave,

Sorry you had to find out the hard way how much work that rusty old car would have been to rework:( It's a good learning experience, though.

Nothing unusual about your trim tag - that body number is only an internal tracking number at the assembly plant, unrelated to the time of year it's produced.

Dusk blue with a white top - nice color combo:thumbsup:

I'm trying to remember - did you buy that other 69 out of MI off of ebay?

I bought it from Pennsylvania via Michigan. It was originally a Michigan car. Bad shape though.

I kept the engine, tranny, and rear end and scrapped the rest.

Ouch! I thought you mentioned in a past post when you asked about cutting up a car that you weren't going to scrap the SS rag? Too bad. I'm sure there would have been someone out there willing to try and save it :(

I have pictures of how bad it was. It was beyond repair. I didn't cut it up, I had it taken away. Frame was rusted through, firewall, the entire body was gone.
There was no paperwork, no matching #'s parts. Nothing to prove if or what it was. Unfortunately, I took a gamble on it and it didn't pay off. But I'm moving on to bigger and better things.

Dude, I hate to rub salt in the wounds, but you probably could have nearly broken even on that car by relisting it on Ebay. I moved from southern CA last year and you wouldn't believe the stuff that people here in Michigan save from the crusher.

Wasn't aware there were two styles of body tags used in 1969:confused: Can you elaborate? I have numerous 69 body tags, even a couple from September, 1968. Unfortunately I only have one Fremont tag (04E) and it's the only 69 tag I have with B80 (Roof Drip Molding) on the tag. One very early Kansas tag (09A) is different from later (09C >) Kansas tags but all later Kansas tags are basically the same. The same is true for other plants I have for 69, they're the same within each plant.

Each plant put different data processing tracking codes (when used) in different places for most Chevelle model years.

I have noticed that up through 68, most plant's body numbers appear to be sequential for the body type (2-dr sport coupe, convertible, etc.). Body numbers from 1969 on do not follow this pattern.
