: 18s on the front?

Last year when I was at SEMA ('04), I ran into a guy in a parking lot that had 20 x 10s on the rear and 18 x 8s on the front. I wrote down the tire sizes that he had, but I only got to speak with him briefly and I never got the backspacing. I was wondering if anyone here is running wheels this size and if you wouldn't mind sharing some info with me.

Seems like I've seen several cars with 17/20 combo, but none yet that have the 18/20. I would have asked a few more questions when I saw the Chevelle in the parking lot if I thought it would be as hard as it's been to find more info on the setup. It may be because it's pretty extreme tire size, but I really liked the look. I'm building a car for cruising mostly. I'm looking seriously at an air-ride as long as it doesn't require any chopping. No heavy racing really, maybe a few road trips.

I've been building a custom LandCruiser the last 4+ years and it's time for me to ramp up my project car build-up. It was my first car. It's actually a 71 Cutlass Convertible. I'm posting here because you guys seem to be a lot more progressive than anything I've been able to find on Cutlass related sites. Brothers in GM right? :)

Any information is appreciated, even if it's just posting up other sites that may have good info for me. Thanks.

Hi, I've got the 67 you were referring to. It has 18 x 7" with 4" Backspacing and 225/45/18 tires in front, and 20 x 8" with 4.5" Backspacing and 255/35/20 on back. Let me know if you need any other info. Thanks for the compliments.

Thanks for the good info. I'll bookmark that database also. I don't think I'll be switching it over to a Chevelle. I'm into the pro-touring stuff, but even I am too much of a purist to do that. I like it to be a little different, but not that way. It's a nice car though. Great foundation though. :) Rich, I posted a question to your build-up thread. I can't wait to see more pics of it. Thanks again guys.

I have 18x 8.5 all the way around on my 66, with Nitto 555's. I also have a set of 15x8's with the 15x4's for the strip. Check out my link to Car Domain in my sig.

What size tires are you running on the 18's? I just bought some 18" rims and will be buying the Nitto 555's. I have a set on my Maxima now and I like them...

I don't remember right now what size tires I have on the Chevelle. It is in winter storage right now, abouty 100 miles away. Shoot me a PM in a month or so if you still want to know. By the way, nice 71 Chevy truck and 67 Chevelle. We have the same interests. Did your 71 come with bucket seats? If not how did you make the brackets for the buckets? I just purchased a set of 02 Tahoe tan leather buckets to put in my 72 GMC truck.
