Hi,is there a difference between a 66 radiator and 67,when did they use that finger protector on top of it?? Does anybody know the correct stamps on the tanks for a 66 396 4 speed car with no air and a 3 series rear end? thanks

The mounting frame around a 67 radiator is offset to make the core closer to the engine than a 66. If you put a 66 radiator in a 67 you usually have to trim a 1/4" or so off the radiator support at the top to clear the top tank. All the reproduction radiators I have seen so far are 66 design.

Dan, Not clear on what you mean by an offset of 1/4". The bracket that the radiator is mount to, which inturn bolts to the radiator support had a U shaped sleave that the core slips into. And then there is the 3 row verse 4 row option. If core is moved back would the fan spacer change? Two fan spacers in 66/67 depending upon wether or not a fan shroud. Finger guard used when there was no fan shroud. No finger guard when using a fan shroud. Shroud std with AC or HD or AIR.

uzdpartz,

The 66 & 67 radiators were the same in size, 26.5 inches wide & 2.75 inches thick with the filler hole location on the right side when standing and facing the engine bay. The standard was a 3 core radiator. With a manual transmission part # 3007620. With an automatic transmission, part #3007621. Their was also an optional heavy duty 4 core that was found with the 375hp motor, or w/ SMOG pump and or AC.

A good bang for your buck is to purchase the CD disc "1966 Chevelle Facts Book from Mike Crown AKA: MysteryChevelle. Lots of good information and more details regarding radiators in Chapter 36 for the 1966 Chevelle.

Good Luck,
Dwaine

My mistake, the fills are in the same place. I should have checked the CD.
