Bill to do the job right the doors should be taken off the car so all the painted surfaces can be properly scuffed. It's difficult to scuff all of these areas with the doors on. The paint won't stick if the surface isn't scuffed up and clean. A red scotchbrite pad will do the trick. And an application of an adhesion promoter like Dupont's 222s followed with a high quality sealer might be a good idea in areas like the A pillar, cowl side and any other areas that are tough to reach. To do it right it should be disassembled and scuffed properly. And if the original paint is in tough shape then it should be removed and a primer applied. To do a colorchange right is a big job. I agree with Bob 100%!

A word to the wise though, if you arent going to have the fenders off when you put the doors back on, be sure to mark the hinges so that you know exactly were they go! Ask me how I know graemlins/clonk.gif

Before paint, I adjusted the doors with the fenders off. A few months later (with fenders on) I decided to change colors and repaint the jambs. The color change wasnt a big deal since I'd only painted the jambs, but when I pulled the doors off again I didnt mark the hinges. After fresh paint I wasnt about to pull the fenders, so you can imagine how much fun I had!

An additional note. The front fenders/clip should also be removed in order to get the new color on the firewall and cowl area behind the fenders.
