Last night I had the strangest thing occur with my 66, the rear side passenger window for no apparent reason completely shattered. I was standing at the front of the car bench racing with a neighbor, there was a loud pop from the back passengerside of the car. When we looked at the side we noticed the rear side window had completely shattered, and I mean completely, from top to bottom, side to side. It looked just as if the window was frozen then set into a boiling pot of water. Never seen or heard of anything like it. This is the original window for the car, 34 years old no visible chips or scratches. I can't explain it. The car is inside the garage, no change in temperature, no slammed doors, another window was down, no BB gun shots, nothing fellow on, around or within sight of the car. I just don't understand.
Has anyone ever had or heard of this happening???
By the way, anyone have any side glass for a 1966 or 67, I am in need of one????

Only in extreme heat. Well at least it wasn't spontaneous combustion!

Hey Dave!
Sorry about your window. I lived in Ypsilanti till a year ago or so. Not too often that you see that name come up.

This happened to my 1963 Olds' rear window a couple years ago, it was just sitting on some padding in my driveway, then I hear glass breaking and my rear windshield is in ten thousand pieces.
Don't know why.

tempered glass breaks like this when the edges touch bare metal, make sure the glass edge is far away from any metal when you reinstall the next one. please note that it doesnt take much at all for tempered glass to break when the edges are resting on metal.
