Can anyone tell me the best way to ressurect old chrome pieces? What is the best way to polish them? Any special materials that I should use?

You can't get bad chrome to look new again. All you can do is polish what ever chrome you have left.

Is there any polish that you recommend? Can I use 0000 steel wool?

I have had success removing surface rust on chrome by wetting fine steel wool with WD40 and rubbing it off. Then polish or wax the surface
