Does anyone know if theres a way to correctly identify a used Hurst competiton plus shifter? I ve looked around at used ones on Ebay, that look right but seller usually isn't sure what they properly fit. Are all the shifter bodies the same and just a different handle? They shifter I currently have is definately not right for my 68,the handle does not bolt on either. I read theres a 4 digit number stamped on the body that may idenitify it,but have found nothing to cross reference these numbers to, Hurst website was no help either
Thanks

I have searched the Hurst/Mr Gasket site in the past and I remember that it actually had parts numbers and exploded views of the shifters. The 68 shifter was a bolt on handle type and if it was for a console car it had a "dogleg" to the right in order to fit in the console. If you are going to keep the car and want to enjoy throwing the gears do yourself a favor and buy a new Competition Plus for your car. When I rebuilt my 66 I messed around with the Hurst that was in it and it was just worn out, I bit the bullet and ordered a new C.P. from OPG. for $259. and it fits and works perfectly.
