It should be a safety switch so that the car cannot be started in gear without depressing the clutch pedal - Don

Cruise Control? Could be a disconnect for the cruise when clutch is depressed to prevent overrevving.

At what point does the switch work?
If it's when the clutch pedal is fully pressed it should be a safety start switch, if when you just start to depress it it could be for a cruise control setup

It is for the clutch to be depressed when you start the car. There should be two heavy purple wires, like 10 gauge, and will only make contact with the pedal fully depressed. Cruise was not availible with manual trans until later.
