I am have trouble removing the lock cylinder from my 69 Chevelle. I have removed everything the book says to and have located the slot that in the housing that a flat tool needs to be inserted into to depress the lock cylinder retainer. Problem is that nothing moves, I don't see anything that will depress. I broke the thin housing but I don't see any spring latch at the bottom of the cylinder. Can anyone HELP? My email address is: peeg@hotmail.com

IF! you are asking about the trunk lock... see the picture. The tab is there and a pain to get to. I have a little Snap-On pick with a 90 degree bend in it. That or a large hammer and screw driver. Hope it helps.
I am refering to the ignition lock, but thanks for the info in case I need to remove a trunk lock.

A little trick I've found on some is that the piece that you have to push down on sorta teta totters and only releases on one end.
You have to make sure and push it down in the center while pulling out the lock cylinder.
Also it takes a very thin tool such as a knife blade.

Here's a pic I took to show the latch you're trying to depress. Someties it helps if you know what you're up against.

"Sometimes there wont be a thin cast membrane covering the release latch, needing to be broken out and sometimes there will be". I took mine out following the haynes manual. Had to knock out the cast flashing and then stick a small drill bit into the slot. It might take some wiggling but it does work.

I am not sure if the picture is 100% correct as to where the screwdriver tip is resting. But the dimension (1.75 inches) is correct.

Thanks guys for all your help. I finaly got it out. It took a little prying because I think everything was just somewhat stuck after 35 years. There was a spring loaded release but it was very hard to engage. Thanks again

Now that you got it out, could you please take a ruler and double check the 1.75 inch dimension from behind the chrome wings to the spring loaded locking wedge.
Thank you,

The dimention is 1.75 from behind the chrome wings to the spring loaded locking wedge. Just as shown in the picture you sent. Thanks again
