hi all, had a "wanted" posted in the classified for awhile with no responses - the top part of the transmission housing, close to the engine, has a chunk out of it - it is possible to replace this piece alone? is it one piece all the way to the tail or is it 2 piece? do people know of good sources to try to find parts like this? would this item have a casting number that "matches" to the rest of the car, such that it is worth trying to have it patched up? or would any pglide from that era do?
As always, many thanks for everyone's advice and guidance.

It's all one piece so you'll at least need a new case. There are people that mill off the front of the case and replace it with a blow-proof bellhousing, but that's really just for racing.
Since you've added disc's in the front I'll assume that you don't mind changing your car a little. I would get a TH350 to replace your PG. It's a 3spd and it's a direct bolt in. You will need the throttle / detent cable bracket, but they are a dime a dozen in the junkyards. Also you may need to modify your shifter depending on what type you have. Still not a big deal and the lower first gear will get you going much easier.

David, many thanks - in fact, as a 327 was available for that year, i am thinking of going with a 327...a TH350 would be a good combination (wouldn't it?)...I thought i'll hang on to the old engine/tranny and let it go with the car (as it is numbers matching) if it ever goes. Any good sources for 327? i believe the th350 came out later...what year did it begin? sources?
As always, many thanks in advance for everyone's advice and guidance.
p.s. if i went this route...what do i do with the floor shifter that currently is set for 2 and 1???

TH400 came out in 65 and I think the 350 came out in 67 or 68 but I'm not sure.
Everything you need for your shifter is right here.

If your going to do an engine swap, I'd go 350 for the simple fact parts will be cheaper.
After driving my 65 with the powerglide, it will soon be replaced with a 700R4.
Good Luck!!

Kevin...the 350 makes perfect economic sense...but since the 327 was available for the 64, and as the rest of the car is pretty much stock (or easily reverted...e.g., front discs), i thought the 327 would have more appeal if and when i resell...what do you think? Other thoughts out there? Perhaps the answer is that once the original motor is out of the car...nothing else is going to matter??
As always, thanks for everyone's advice and guidance.
