HEY EVERYONE WITH A CI HOOD, WE HAVE US A HERO!
The valve that Brian posted about is available from GM--------------and it works! It is plastic, not metal, and it closes the cowl door a little more slowly than the original valve which is just fine with me! The part number is 8997639. List price from Chev is $17.62, cost is $12.33 (try to find a garage or friend at a parts store who will let you buy from Chev parts at their cost). My cost with tax was $13.26!!! It makes an excellent FUNCTIONAL substitute, and you don't have to pay for shipping, just tax.
Also the outside door handle gaskets are still available from Chev. The part number is 1154551. Both gaskets for each end of the handle come in one package at about half the cost of aftermarket gaskets. My cost for BOTH handles, with tax, was $2.67, and no shipping.
