I remember seeing a few people who where interested in aluminum body mounts.

Anyhow, in the next month or two, I am going to be making a set for my '72.

Was wondering if there would be any interest and if I should make more then one set?

You have Al's blessing? Where do you keep that? In a box under the bed?:D

Sorry, I know that was stuipid, but it amused me.

And for what it is worth I have solid mounts on my car and I am very happy with them. Mine are Nylon not Aluminum, but it should work out well for you.

Well, I have seen moderators go crazy when they see something that has to do with selling something :(

Anyhow, I am probably going to use the lathe at my father's work...
Should help stiffen the ride up a bit.

I may be interested in a set of half-thickness body mounts.... my worn out rubber ones are squished down a ways anyway, so it shouldn't be a problem :)

Actually I would do the same. I am glad to see that you contacted Al first. That's the best way to handle it. Good luck with the mounts.

Looks like they would be easy enough to make. (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1964-65-66-67-GTO-CHEVELLE-ALUMINUM-BODY-BUSHINGS_W0QQitemZ4579183326QQcategoryZ10076QQssPa geNameZWD1VQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem)

The only problem I would see is that the core supports (if one were to use poly/rubber bushings) is that they would be to tall. So a set of dropped core supp. mounts would need to be included in the set.

Anyone have the dimensions of the body & core support mounts? I really don't feel like wasting $200 on a set of mounts just for the dimensions. I need every possible dimension. Height, Diameter, Bolt Hole Size, etc...

Derek & Shep, will send a PM later today.

Shouldn't take $200 to buy a set. Especially if you return them after measuring...

Sorry you are about 1 week too late. I had a nice new set in a box I could have measured. But after having them on the shelf for close to a year I finally got around to putting them in last week. It was way overdue.

I bought a full set of poly mounts... I can measure them if needed. I'm still interested in getting short aluminum mounts though :)

Derek,

Here is a poor quality diagram of a random top mount (excuse the MS Paint job, no quality program on this computer :) )

I need K,X,Y,Z.... (std. size)

Thx.

Whats the advantage or need for half height mounts? just body drop / aesthetics or what? center of gravity?

Whats the advantage or need for half height mounts? just body drop / aesthetics or what? center of gravity? All of the above, but without loosing ground-clearance. (only front tire-to-fender clearance will still limit the total drop).

Thanks for the clarification, bud. Something to add to my list that continues to grow every day.

You will need center sleeve measurement as well

Wednesday I just got lazy and did some things around the house  Tuesday was the last day I accomplished anything, tonight is my office's Christmas party, and Sunday is a family christmas party. (family christmas party is 75 feet from where I'm working on the car.... doubt I'll get much done but drink beer and BS)

That leaves me with tomorrow (Saturday) only to get something accomplished. :clonk:

I just used a set of camaro bushings... well my car doesn't have rad bushings or front body bushings anymore so the camaro set they sell worked fine.

I have a set of new rubber body bushings, by cutting by half the height or so. Will I run into any problems because the body is closer to the frame and drivetrain? hanging exhaut? room in the trans tunnel? hangin gas tank?

I would rather shorten the body mounts to get a little more responce but also lower to it little bit.

Nevermind... I taked to someone else and he said you will also run into problems with the steering column and some other issues.
