I have a 72 chevelle that I am changing from an automatic tranny to a muncie 4 speed. It appears that the motor is sitting too low. Are there different height motor mounts for the 350 or is it the frame mount portion that is taller? Thanx

So far as I know, there is only one geometry for 350 mounts in your car. The 307 engines were a little different, but fairly similar. Just what is it about your car that makes you think that the engine is too low?

To determine whether you have short or tall mounts, measure from the bottom of the mount to the center of the through-bolt hole. Tall mounts measure approximatelly 2-3/8" in dimension, while short mounts measure approximately 1-3/4 ".

If you are using a factory 4 speed and factory shifter, you will need a rear crossmember to mount the shifter, And I hope to h--l you have no thoughts of using a factory shifter. I have a M22 with a factory shifter, And it sucked in April 1970 when I got it and it still SUCKS. Bob

I always thought and was told this also, but recently I went looking for a set of poly mounts for the 70. It has a 307 in it and I'm going up to a 400 small block. I am not planning on changing the frame part of the mount so I asked for mounts for a 307 and was told by both the local shop and Summit that the 307 through 350/400 small block mount is all the same. IF you check Summits on line catalog and enter 70 chevelle with a 307 you get a listing of the same mounts as for the 5.7 (350). Hope they're right since I bought the poly mounts from summit and won't get around to the engine swap until at least next winter.

307 and 350 up engine mounts are absolutely not the same, so I bet you get the 350 up mount which will not work with 307 frame stands.

Ok. that is what I thought, so now I have the incorrect mounts. anyone know the correct mount for the 307?

This is from a previous post on the subject of motor mounts. It might clairify your motor mount issue. I am not the author but it tells it like it is.
Quote:
ALL OF THE BELOW IS IN REGARD TO STOCK BRACKETS/RUBBER MOUNTS-----------------------------NOT AFTERMARKET!
The 68-72 350 (327 IN 68) through 454 FRAME brackets are the same and the 307 frame brackets are the same.
The difference is that the 307 frame brackets are TALLER and WIDER than the 350 thru 454 frame brackets. Also, the rubber ENGINE mounts are just a plain rubber mount, whereas the 350-454 rubber mounts are the interlocking type.
If you attempt to place a 350-454 RUBBER mount on a 307 frame bracket, it doesn't fit. YES, you can spread a 350-454 rubber mount to force it to fit onto a 307 frame bracket, BUUUUUUUUUUUUUT, the engine is STILL going to sit up to high because the 307 frame bracket is taller.
So, If you have the 350-454 frame brackets, and you have installed the 350-454 style rubber engine mounts, it will all fit together. Sometimes, it is necessary to do a little wiggling and jiggling of the engine to get the mounts to go down over the brackets, but it will go. Be sure you have the engine at the right angle for the mounts to properly line up with the brackets.
Also, ever since side mount bosses were added to ALLLLLLLLLLLL Chev V8 engines starting in 1958, they are dimensionally in exactly same location. And the side mount bosses are the same distance forward from the bell housing flange. That includes all SB, W and BB engines.
But, the bottom line is that there is a difference between 307 and 350-454 frame brackets.
