Very cool. Last year at Barret Jackson there was a '64 Impala 4-door with a 409/425, 4 speed, 4.10 posi rear. They said the guy was a salesmen at a Chevy dealer and ordered it because he had a family. I love those interesting cars.

Cool car. It has appeared in enthusiast magazines in the past. The sellers story about Chevrolet's reluctance to build the car because of concerns about lack of vacuum for power brakes and a different diameter fuel line are BS, though.

My cousin had an old wagon that had a 427/4spd in it. I think it was a 68. He bought it for the 427 4spd and junked the car... That was in like 82. He's kicking himself now because it was a really clean car.

Rare for sure, but not too desireable for most enthusiasts. Bring it to any car show and it will get more yawns than throngs of impressed spectators. The same lack of interest in this kind of combo when the car was new is what kills it today - there is zero cool factor to showing up among musclecars with a whale of a family wood paneled wagon for trips to visit grandma. The Kingswood is not a Nomad. This is pure geek-rod, break out the slide rules and pocket protectors. Beneath the pilar of the community that originally bought this car lurked a naughty side - he really wanted to burn rubber, but just didn't want his neighbors to know about his secret life!
Sleeper? I would expect this to be the slowest L72 ever built, I mean like really what is it going to do in a Kingswood?
It almost seems like the seller is encouraging someone to buy the car and then leave it at the museum. Yeah great fun that would be: "I bought a museum car, now I have to travel to the museum to enjoy it." Any such buyers would be way ahead of the game just to visit the museum without buying the car. The thrill would be the same.
Too bad the original buyer didn't think of coercing Chevrolet into building it with a 4 speed while he was at it, at least if you want to believe the tale of why the order was refused 4 times.

I remember reading about this in Muscle Car Review. I still have the issue, I kept it because it was such a neat issue chronicaling alot of the one of one cars from the 1960's.
