I've got my car in my shop. I need to remove the vinyl top because of rust under it. I plan on putting it back on. Once I get the glue and rust out of the way can I prime the roof. Will this interfer with the glue for the top. It will be a while untill I ready for the top and I don't want to leave the metal exposed.

When I removed my Chevelle's vinyl top a few years ago, I noticed that it had the factory paint under it. It appeared to me that the entire car was painted, then the vinyl top was put on. I'm certainly no expert, but I would think that as long as the paint cured, you shouldn't have a problem.

Once the roof is off, I would treat the roof like you would the rest of the car; quality primer and paint. Obviously not a wet sanded job, but properly applied so as to prevent any chance of further corrosion.
