I haven't painted a car in 15 years, the ol'69 will be the test, I used Imron back then, because of its deep gloss & durabilty, Is it what it used to be or should I look in a new direction?? graemlins/clonk.gif OLD SCHOOL BODY MAN

Look in a new direction. If you want to use Dupont use Chromabase basecoat with a urethane clear such as V7500. Single stage you can use ChromaOne.Thats a single stage urethane. Same qualities as Imron but a little more refined.Way easier to work with and repair. I dont know of anyone using Imron on cars anymore. Some still use it on airplanes, industrial or marine applications.

The Old Imron was tough stuff. People used to advertise their cars for sale and the claim to fame was it is painted with IMRON. Have seen the Old Imron last 20 years in bad nasty environments.

The newest version of Imron is available in the 600 series bc/cc. Don't quote me on that number because Dupont has a habit of changing numbers around from time to time. Anyway the bc/cc Imron is no where near as tough as the old imron.

The place I work at used about $3000-$4000 of this 600 series DuPont material a day. Taken directly from 55 gallon drums in a Specialized Mixing station and sent to 22+ cfm DeVilbiss Pressure guns. Took a Sullair Compressor pushing over 500+cfm to keep the air requirements happy. The paint booth - MULTI-Million Dollar setup.

There are better materials on the market then the Imron 600 series bc/cc.

If you use Imron use a fresh air breathing supply because it is the nastiest paint on the market for you health concerns. Knew many custom painters that sprayed this stuff with little to no protection. They aren't around anymore. In that case their paint jobs out lasted them. Can't say it was 100% related but most of them had severe breathing problems.

Don

P.S. NASCAR BOUND AROUND was a FACT.
