Facts:

64 chevelle - replaced (by mechanic) all wiring with M&H harnesses - also did front disc conversion - car came home running but with broken power booster (happened as car was being backed out on to truck) - got a replacement booster from manufacturer - put it on - bled brakes - car won't start - did nothing (i mean nothing), other than the booster - before this incident, with ignition on "On" or "Acc" the lights , blinkers and a blower fan (assume climate control related) would blow, and car would start at "Start" - after incident, with key to "On" or "Acc" same as before, BUT, the blower no longer works and it won't start - took battery back to Sears - they replaced it with a new one - took lightmeter to positve cable at selenoid, it is hot - turn to start, nothing else hot on selenoid - jumped starter (bridging selenoid purple (hot from ignition) to battery positive at selenoid), starter motor works - backed up and bridged purple to purple at steering wheel - i.e. unplugged both purples and hooked them up together - i was told this bypasses the neutral safety switch...nothing - bought a new ignition switch today...still nothing.

Request:

What do I do next? Is there any relationship between the blower and the starter in the wiring? Fuses all look good...help!!

As always, many thanks in advice for everyone's advice and guidance.

Is your harness plugged into the firewall just below the booster? If so, you could have bumped it loose while changing it. I would check that connection first.

Thanks, Terry - I will do - but if it were unplugged, would I be getting power to the ignition? There is some power to ignition, because when switched to Acc or On, I can engage the lights and blinkers - any other thoughts out there??

thanks!!

That's a good place to start looking, because the light harness and the ignition harness are usually two separate harnesses so you could have knocked the ignition harness loose when you changed the booster.

Terry, Cam67...right on the money...knocked the connector off the firewall...this is like taking your computer apart to fix it...only to find it was unplugged (and using up a day on the phone with the help line)...what an amateur!! Thanks much!

As long as I have you guys, a couple of other before/after phenomena...used to have horn...now not...used to have speedometer...now not...assume it could be a lack of reconnecting at the gauge on the latter - nothing should have been done at the transmission (which is where I think the speedometer sensor is)...the horn...what to check if electrical?

As always, many thanks in advance for everyone's advice and guidance!

The speedo is all mechanical. A cable is attached to the trans that's driven by a gear. The other end of the cable is attached to the back of the speedometer. You can take the cable off of the trans and hook a drill to it & spin it. If the speedo works, then the gear in the trans is probably bad. If it doesn't work, then take the cable loose from the speedo & be sure it isn't broken. If the cable's OK, then the problem is in the speedo.

If this happened right after changing your booster, than I would check under the dash, where it connects to the speedo. Could have been bumped loose when removing the brake pedal pin. The horn, I'm not so sure about. But check the harness comming out of the column, down by the pedals.
Glad the other problem ended up being an easy fix.
