I was wondering if someone could give me some info on body work?I am doing most of the car myself but the doors need a little to much than I can handle. They have 35 years of door opening dings in them and some small rust holes. I am going to have a regular body do that work. I know its hard to say without seeing them but can anyone venture a guess at a reasonable price to straighten a door in that condition. I was quoted 250 a door from one guy . that seems on the high side to just straighten and just get it ready for paint?

That's not to cheap at all.To fix rust and dents and get it ready to paint? Think about it he's being nice to. Body men are very under paid for what they do. There's a lot involved in this work. To do it correct and make it last.

I'd buy a new skin if i were you.about $120 for the part.about 4-5 hrs labor to put it on,plus paint.i repaired rust on my door and it keeps coming back in different spots.they rust from the inside out so its a losing battle.

I agree with 70isfine. Replace the door skin and be over with it. Two years ago I stripped the paint off of my 70 and repaired the rust on the passenger door. We repainted the car only to see the paint on the bottom of the door blistering up again, after two short years. There are no shortcuts. Let's see, now where is that sandpaper......? http://www.chevelles.com/forum/wink.gif

Putting on a repop door skin isn't as easy as just put it on and paint it. It will take lots of work to do that to. It's not that simple. I do agree with them. You'll probly be in for more to do that. Me I'd fix the original So it would'nt rust I'd pick you'r jip skin in a second at a show. Tin foil.

I sent the door on my 64ss out to have a lower patch put on. They charged me $200. They cut out the old, welded in the new, sandblasted the entire door inside as well as outside, duraglassed where the patch met the original. I'm going to finish the rest. I thought $200 was reasonable.
