Since I will have a manual shift kit in my TH400 for shifting while racing, am I correct in assuming that I will not have a need for a kick down switch or cable attached to my tranny ? Or is this something that is always required ?

Is this a manual reverse pattern trans or just a std.

Good question, I don't even have the tranny yet. Please explain the difference and thanks for asking.

You don't have to have the shift-down switch but without it the trans will not automatically shift down if you floor it in drive. On the track it won't make any difference but if you drive it on the the street I think the auto downshift would be convenient. When you suddenly want more accelleration, it'll happen quicker if you can get a downshift just by flooring the pedal.

If the trans is a full manual VB, I dont think there is any way to make it kick down without moving the shifter. The TH400 utilizes an electric switch that is mounted above the gas pedal, and has a wire that runs down to a soleniod on the side of the trans case. Remember, if you have a full manual VB, you must manually shift it up and down. If you leave it in "D" at a stop sign and take off, you will take off in 3rd. Reverse pattern is P-R-N-1-2-D, Std pattern is P-R-N-D-2-1

That's great info ! Thanks. It will have a full manual valve body and will not be driven on the street (very rarely). I plan to use a floor mounted B&M Megashifter (or equal) which I believe is a ratchet action shift.
