I think I has some miss information that might lead me to putting to much oil in a BB. Bought the car two years ago. I think all componets except the block are from a 66 / 396 engine. The block is a CE stamped block from 1970 with a casting # that indicates it is a 402.
The dip stick and tube was a GM replacement with part # stamped in dip stick. There was a hole drill above the full mark in the dip stick. When I replace the spin on oil filter with the filter thats called for in a 1970 402 block and add 5 qts of oil the oil level is at the drilled hole.
I replaced the dip stick and tube with a original dip stick & tube for a 66 BB. The level of the oil reads above the full mark,at the same level as the previous situation.
My 66 manual says put in 4 qts or 5 qts when replacing filter.I am wondering that since the 402 filer is not the same size as the original 66 canister filter that maybe I should not be adding 5 qts. What do you think?
What type of damage can be done with two much oil?
