I know this has probably been asked 100 hundred or more times.

I have a 1972 chevelle. It is in desperate need of a paint job. I am not going for full out show quality but I want something that is going to last. I have about 2000-2500. Do you think I could get a good paint job for that price. I plan to pull the engine and transmission when it gets painted. I am just curious of what I should expect when I get estimates. This is my first "muscle" car. I just don't want to run into any surprises. I have been making arragements to use Por-15 to cover up the rust on the frame and undercarriage. I want to get that all done before the car is painted.

Thoughts? I really need some help with how to attack this one....

That is an extremely difficult question to answer. For a couple of grand you should be able to get a half way decent job, but you never know what is hidden under the existing paint until someone starts stripping her down. You better budget yourself for an extra grand because guaranteed, the body man is going to find something that you are going to want to fix, it always does.

I store my car on display at a new car dealership and over the winter of 04 - 05, I wanted a bunch of small spots around the car touched up particularly along the sides on the bottoms of the doors & quarters where stone chip marks were. By the time I got done, I invested 230 man hours in their body shop with a brighter red than it was and made the body absolutely perfect, & that is after I pulled everything off the car that would come off to be painted.

Granted, I have been bitten by the bug quite badly, but you better budget some extra because you are going to need it.

I love to give home made gifts, which one of the kids would you like?

Looks like I better start saving my pennies.
