: Anybody use Ready Coat, formerly Carponents/Ecoat King?
70Z15 Oct 27th, 03, 7:55 PM I've been thinking about having my entire car body chemically stripped and ecoated for a while. I know some guys on this site have used www.ecoatking.com (http://www.ecoatking.com) Well I called there today, and they are under new ownership. It is now called Ready(sp?) Coat. Car body pricing is also up to $2,500 from $2000. Has anybody used the company under the new ownership?
Mike72ss Oct 27th, 03, 8:03 PM 70Z15,
If you're talking about the place in Michigan, I just took my SS hood , trunk lid and both inner fenders there last Friday. I talked to a guy named Mark, he's a car guy. he had a 66 Chevelle in the shop where the parts are dipped. I won't be getting my parts back for a couple more weeks, so I don't know how they'll turn out, good I hope!
Mike
70Z15 Oct 27th, 03, 8:12 PM Mike, yes that's the place. I talked to Mark also. Please let me know how your parts turn out.
Thanks, Tim
Mike72ss Oct 27th, 03, 8:25 PM I sure will Tim,
If I do forget to reply in a couple weeks, just email me.

Motorhead Oct 29th, 03, 9:21 PM A friend of mine had a Camaro body done there.Killer! Way better than media blasting in my opinion.See it at www.infamouscamaro.com (http://www.infamouscamaro.com)
70SS Oct 29th, 03, 9:35 PM I had some stuff done there and it was a nightmare. My doors came back with ecoated sand in the bottom of both of them. My cowl induction hood was dropped and messed up on one side. I have a core support that was done by them and all the seems on the core support are slightly rusty (This is stored in a heated garage). The entire situation was shady to me and now I find out that they changed there name. graemlins/angry.gif
andrewb70 Oct 31st, 03, 8:45 AM I can't vouch for the new management, since I have never had an experience with him. I can tell you that the change of name and ownership had nothing to do with anything "shady". Bill O'Connor used to run Carponents. He is a great guy and did a fantastic job. He got out of the business for personal reasons, at which point Mark took over the operation. Hence the name change.
I can also tell you that process is totally amazing. I am not sure why you would have sand in the doors, since no sand ever comes near any parts. Unless they have changed the process.
Here is a link that shows the transformation:

70SS Oct 31st, 03, 12:08 PM Gee, it must of been a figment of my imagination then.
70Z15 Oct 31st, 03, 1:18 PM In talking to Mark, I gathered that he has always done the chemical stripping for O'Connor. O'Connor was just a middle man. Someone else does the actual ecoating. Mark said that entire car bodies have gone up, but doors and fenders have gone down. I should have done the body last year when the price was $1800. Now that the price is up to $2500 and 70SS has had some problems, I'm not sure what to do.
70SS Oct 31st, 03, 1:30 PM All the ecoating is done by a place down in Toledo. You can take the stuff down there by yourself and they will give you a price per pound. All the ecoatking guys are doing is moving the stuff from marks stripping place to the place down in Toledo.
ehjorten Oct 31st, 03, 2:43 PM The 'E-Coat Sand' that you are refering to wouldn't be anything from the E-Coat process. More than likely is was trash or something that was there before the process began...maybe from a poor cleaning process prior to E-Coat. If it is coated from the process then it would most likely have to be something conductive.
70SS Oct 31st, 03, 8:31 PM Thats exactly what all of the stuff was. It was the dirt and paint that was dislodged from the stripping process. The door should have been power washed in the bottom door seam, and hung one either end and allowed to run out or be rinsed out. The door skin and innerstructure welded seam was packed full of all of the by-product of the stripping process. I was atractted to this process for the doors because I was concerned with this area before painting the car. I know this is an area on these doors that will rust if moisture is allowed to get packed in the corners and along the seam.I media blasted all of this area after the ecoated process and coated with epoxy primer. I thought that a little more care should have been taked when doing the doors . :(
My car is from the south and there was allot of orange clay-like stuff that you could drag a thin screw driver through along the bottom. I was not happy because I was doing all of this to eliminate any problems with rust in this area.
robo3 Nov 1st, 03, 2:33 PM 70 ss whats the name of the place in toledo? i have two cars to do and now i'm scarrrrred!!!!!
I'm not sure. I know they are in Toledo and they do allot of the big 3's stuff. The body shop that painted my car takes stuff down there all the time. It's real close to the border ( first or second exit on 75).
ehjorten Nov 3rd, 03, 7:14 PM Well...I wanted to have my '68 C-10 Cab done by those guys...however...it would be a big shipping bill from Washington! I think I am going to buy new Goodmark doors because the doors on the truck are pretty well abused. There shouldn't be any real issues with the cab and trash being left in places...but then again...I wouldn't know unless I personally went out there and held their hands. Got a name for that E-Coat shop in Toledo? I don't believe there is anything like that out on the West Coast. Of course I could strip it here, but by the time it got to Michigan it would be rusty. Any suggestions?...
Mike72ss Nov 20th, 03, 6:49 PM Hi,
I just wanted to update everyone interested in Ready Coat ( formerly Ecoat King). I took my parts in at the end of October, an SS hood a truck lid and two inner fenders to Ready coat. I picked them up today and I am pleased to report that I am very happy with the job. The hood and deck lid were totally coated even in all the nooks and crannies where no one could reach. I did ask about the process and they told me the parts are first baked, then washed in acid and nuetralized before they head out to another facility near Toledo for the ecoat. While I was there I did see a shell of a car (couldn't tell what it was) and many other parts in various stages.
Like I said, I am happy with the parts I got back.
Mike
